Docksquad sports put together a wonderful and concise, light-hearted preview of the NFL season. Quick recaps and predictions, each team’s X-Factor, and a quick celebrity comparison for each team.
Here’s some snippets of what he’s got for the NFC North…
…but be sure to go here and check out the entire league.
NFC NORTH
· Offseason: Not much, which may not be a bad thing as this squad looks ready to go all in for a Superbowl run. A few major injuries in the secondary have caused some of the young guys to prepare for a bigger role.
· X-Factor: Pass defense. The Packers have a video game type offense that is going to score a ton. But as last year’s playoff loss shows, the defense was susceptible to getting torched by good QBs. Now in year 2 of DC Dom Capers’s 3-4 scheme, the Packers will expect a bit more consistency. If it works, there is no reason this team can’t contend for it all.
· Celebrity: Miley Cyrus…young, exciting (she’s 17 so this is strictly music based) and poised to take a big step forward to the very top. But still enough questions to keep this from being a homerun.
· Offseason: More of the Brett Favre soap opera and injuries have surfaced to some key weapons.
· X-Factor: Brett Favre. It’s fairly obvious at this point that the Vikings will go as far as Favre takes them, and the Vikings openly admitted this with all their blatant begging for his return. However it’s going to take a few huge smiles from the Football Gods for #4 to replicate last season’s “fountain of youth” performance with a tougher schedule and a knicked-up arsenal.
· Celebrity: Mickey Rourke…the talent is always there but so is quite a bit of baggage/drama. The chances of repeating 2009 are not great.
· Offseason: Huge players in the offseason, bringing in ballers like Julius Peppers and Chester Taylor (underrated pickup). The Bears patiently wait as some of its key guys like Brian Urlacher get back into form. And three words rarely bring up such discussion and debate as a “Mike Martz offense”.
· X-Factor: The aforementioned Martz offense and specifically the offense line. Martz predicates his scheme on extending the field. This offensive line was not great last year and didn’t really get much better since. Their performance will be magnified as they protect a QB with other-world skills but very questionable decision making.
· Celebrity: Jessica Simpson: At one time, they had a shot at legitimacy (2006 Superbowl), but since then the team has been wallowing in mediocrity. Now they swear they have made changes for the better. In reality though, it’s probably going to be more of the same.
· Offseason: Cutting the remaining dead weight from the Millen era and bringing solid veterans like Kyle Vandenbosch to shore up positions. Also obtained two more gamers in the first round in Suh and Best but there are still a lot of holes.
· X-Factor: The last line of defense. The defensive line is solidifying but the linebackers and secondary are still questionable at best. Stafford & Co. should be improved with experience but they aren’t built for shootouts just yet.
· Celebrity: Lindsey Lohan. You watch them for the “train wreck” aspect but you are also getting tired of the same. This could be the year they turn the corner because their worst days are behind them…..right?
